Harry Morgan: Movies & Box Office

Harry Morgan, originally named Harry Bratsberg, was an American actor recognized for his consistent television and film career spanning over six decades. Born on April 10, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, his parents were of Swedish and Norwegian descent. Morgan is best known for his characters Pete Porter, Officer Bill Gannon, Amos Coogan, and Colonel Sherman T. Potter among others. He appeared in more than 100 supporting role films. His acting career kicked off while still a junior at the University of Chicago in 1935. His early break arrived when he joined the Group Theatre in New York City in 1937. Following that, he appeared in a series of Broadway roles and made his screen debut in 1942 in the film 'To the Shores of Tripoli'. Over his extensive career, Morgan has played significant roles in various iconic films and TV series. He co-starred in the NBC comedy/drama series 'Kentucky Jones' and is widely recognized for his role on 'Dragnet' from 1967-1970. Morgan later joined the sitcom 'MAS*H' where he played the character Colonel Sherman T. Potter, for which he won an Emmy award in 1980. In later years, he continued to act in TV series and films such as 'Blacke's Magic' and 'Dragnet' (1987). He also had a guest role on 'The Jeff Foxworthy Show' as Raymond and a guest role on 'Grace Under Fire' as Jean's pot-smoking boyfriend. Morgan passed away in his sleep on December 7, 2011 at the age of 96.
