Sol Rubins, Harry Morgan, a dying millionaire, owns a children’s summer camp in Arizona, Camp Sedona. He plans to leave the camp to his niece Julie Emily Procter Rubins after he dies. Julie’s fiancé Jeffrey Judge Reinhold, upset at not receiving a dowry, schemes to sell the camp to wealthy investors by transforming it into an experimental adult resort named Chez Sedona. He invites investors for a weekend retreat to demonstrate its value, hoping to secure long-term financing. Unbeknownst to Jeffrey, Harry Haber Leslie Nielsen, after a scheduling confusion, has already arranged for the children from the Mid Valley Children Home (run by his son Cliff Tony Rosato) to visit Camp Sedona for their annual summer getaway. The trip had been canceled due to Sol’s impending death but is revived after a visit by Harry with Sol and a talk with Julie after Sol’s funeral, lining up with the same July weekend as Chez Sedona’s opening.

Two Mid Valley kids, Alec McKenzie Trevor Morgan and Eli McKenzie Zachary Browne, recently lost their father and are trying to find their biological mother in Phoenix. Their plans to run away are thwarted when Alec, the more rebellious of the two, is grounded by Cliff Haber Tony Rosato. Eli helps Alec slip onto a bus by hiding him in a large duffel bag, and the brothers’ path cross in a way that tests loyalties and safety.

When the worlds of Camp Sedona and Chez Sedona collide, the kids pull pranks and disrupt the adult crowd, much to the frustration of Jeffrey, whose investors want a more child-free environment. Meanwhile, as camp director, Harry Haber keeps his focus on giving the children a great time, and Julie reconnects with her childhood friend Matt Nolan Eddie Bowz, the camp director. Matt forms a protective, almost older-brother bond with Eli and starts looking out for him, while Alec continues to guard his younger brother.

The tension peaks when Alec climbs a dangerous cliff to retrieve Eli’s toy plane and nearly loses his life. Matt rescues him, and Cliff learns of Alec’s whereabouts at the Mid Valley Home. That night, during a planned movie screening, Jeffrey tries to show his sensitive side to win Julie’s favor, but a prank video made by the boys reveals Jeffrey’s discussions about moving forward with the resort behind Julie’s back. Julie punches Jeffrey and ends the engagement, declaring Camp Sedona not for sale.

Knowing Cliff is set to arrive to pick up Alec, the brothers sneak away in a catering van bound for Phoenix. Julie and Matt chase and eventually find the van after a tense pursuit, and they recover a map the brothers left behind. They head back to the camp; Cliff arrives with the boys and tells Julie and Matt to head to the mother’s address. The kids discover the house is now occupied by new owners who know nothing of the brothers’ past, leaving them with no easy path to their mother. Back at Camp Sedona, Matt reveals his plan to adopt the brothers, a move Julie supports, and Matt then proposes to Julie, who accepts, cementing a new life together. As they prepare to depart, Harry helps Cliff understand that the chaos isn’t about selling a camp but about giving two children a home and a family. The film ends with the newly formed family driving away together, while a frustrated Jeffrey is left by the roadside with a broken car tire.
