Quince Drew [Larry Hagman] and Jason O’Rourke [Louis Gossett Jr.], two nimble grifters roaming the Old West, drift from town to town with smooth stories and even smoother alibis. Their latest run-in with trouble comes when they’re arrested by Prudy Jenkins [Blythe Danner], the zealous, rifle-wielding daughter of Sheriff Jenkins [Harry Morgan]. The charge seems simple enough: they look like the kind of criminals who haunt frontier tales. She delivers them to the sheriff, who initially orders their release in a show of daylight mercy.
