George Henry Sanders, born on 3rd July 1906, was a successful British actor and singer. His career spanned over four decades, marked by his distinct, upper-class English accent and his smoothly powerful bass voice. Sanders is most remembered for his roles as villainous, sophisticated characters. His claim to fame was the Oscar he snagged for his role as theatre critic Addison DeWitt in All About Eve (1950). Besides this acclaimed performance, notable roles included Jack Favell in Rebecca (1940), King Richard the Lionheart in King Richard and the Crusaders (1954), and the voice of Shere Khan in Disney's The Jungle Book (1967).

Sanders was born in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire, to rope manufacturer Henry Sanders and horticulturist Margaret Kolbe. He attended Bedales School and Brighton College before furthering his studies at Manchester Technical College. After managing a tobacco plantation in South America and working at an advertising agency in Britain, Sanders pursued acting at the suggestion of a colleague, actress Greer Garson.
