Bluebeard’s 10 Honeymoons 1960

Henri Landru is an art dealer who becomes infatuated with Odette, a burlesque performer who already has a lover and is only interested in him for money. She tricks him into thinking her mother is sick and needs money for an important operation, and he vows to raise the funds to fund the operation.

To start building his fortune, Landru searches for furniture he can sell. He encounters a young widow, Vivienne, who is hoping to part with some vintage pieces. He quickly charms her, but a later discovery—that she has sold her furniture to someone else—sparks a quarrel that ends in Vivienne’s accidental death. Landru is able to cover up the manslaughter, and when he realizes he can simply claim Vivienne’s furniture as his own and sell it, he recognizes an easy path to money.

Emboldened, Landru adopts several aliases and begins charming several wealthy, middle-aged women, wooing them into marriage before killing them, typically by drugging them and then stabbing them. The killings become a chilling pattern as he moves from one target to the next.

Eventually, Landru spies Odette with her lover and understands that she has been stringing him along the whole time. He lures her to his villa and murders her, sealing the tragedy he has begun.

Meanwhile, Vivienne’s sister grows more suspicious about her sister’s disappearance, but the police lack sufficient evidence to intervene. Undeterred, she pursues the trail herself and ultimately finds Landru at his rented villa. The authorities close in, Landru is arrested, and the film closes with his execution.
