
Set in 1770 Norfolk, England, the nephew of an innkeeper befriends the son of a reverend. Their close bond survives adventure, but they eventually part: the innkeeper’s nephew travels to London and joins Lloyd’s, a thriving insurance house; the reverend’s son later becomes one of the British Empire’s great heroes.
