Joju George
Joju George (born Joseph George on 22 October 1977) is an Indian actor, playback singer, director, writer and producer who has become one of the most versatile figures in contemporary Malayalam cinema. He was born in the small town of Mala in Thrissur district, Kerala, to George Parecattil and Rosy George, and completed his schooling at GHS Kuzhur before earning a degree from Christ College, Irinjalakuda. Starting his film journey as a junior artist in the 1995 movie Mazhavilkoodaram, he quickly moved behind the camera as an assistant director in 1997, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the industry. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s he appeared in numerous minor roles, but his breakthrough arrived with a memorable comic turn as a police commissioner in Hotel California (2013), which earned him recognition for his timing and screen presence. In 2015 he received his first Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for supporting performances in Oru Second Class Yathra and Lukka Chuppi, and the same year he ventured into production with titles such as Charlie and Udaharanam Sujatha, eventually founding Appu Pathu Pappu Production. His lead‑role performance in Joseph (2018) not only secured a special mention at the 66th National Film Awards but also brought him a second Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor. Subsequent acclaimed projects include Porinju Mariam Jose, Halal Love Story, Nayattu (for which he won the Diorama International Film Festival Best Actor award, becoming the first Malayali to do so), and his Tamil debut alongside Dhanush in Jagame Thandhiram. As a producer, he has overseen successful films such as Chola, Madhuram and Freedom Fight, and he has lent his voice as a playback singer in his own film Joseph. Married to Abba since 2008, the couple raises three children—Ian, Sarah and Ivan—while Joju continues to shape the cinematic landscape across Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries.
