Iravi Kuttan Pillai, a fresh KSRTC bus conductor from Thrissur, starts his first posting on the Pathanamthitta–Gavi route. Gavi is a picturesque village tucked inside a forest, built around a dam reservoir, where a small local population coexists with a daily routine of work trips to Pathanamthitta. He quickly settles into the rhythm, makes friends with the locals, and his heart finds a home in the village’s native girl, Kalyani.

Trouble arrives on a routine run when the bus breaks down en route to Gavi. The driver, Suku from Palakkad, slips away with a friend and drinks while repairs are underway, leaving Iravi to drive back—despite not being authorized to do so. In dim evening light, fog, and the distraction of conversations with Suku, Iravi misses a person on the road. Brakes are applied too late, and the bus hits the man. In a panic, they load the bleeding victim into a pickup that arrives shortly after and mislead the authorities with a hit-and-run story. One of the victim’s bags goes missing in the confusion.

Guilt gnaws at Iravi, especially when he discovers the victim is Devan, the son of the respected Venu Mash, a retired headmaster and a local panchayat figure, and Devan’s fiancée is Anna—Iravi’s childhood friend. Devan works in Surat and is visiting for his wedding plans. The next day they search hospitals, but no trace of him is found. Days pass, and the police later recover a body at the bottom of a hill, appearing to be a suicide. Iravi and Suku know better. Iravi contemplates confessing, but Suku persuades him to wait until after his sister’s marriage.

Anna, through Kalyani, uncovers Devan’s bag in a moment that intensifies the mystery. Iravi, overwhelmed by grief, ultimately confesses and bears the blame, leading to his arrest. The police dismiss the story of a truck driver and leave Suku free, while Iravi faces the consequences of his confession. With Iravi behind bars, a tense search for the truck driver continues, and the truth gradually emerges: the crime was orchestrated by Bhadran, Devan’s best friend since childhood.

Bhadran, known in the village as a well-meaning but eccentric handyman and the dam’s shutter operator, has long harbored feelings for Anna—though no one knows the depth of his secret crush. On Devan’s visit, Bhadran summons the truck driver to help bring him home, and a brutal confrontation unfolds. The bus’s arrival foils Bhadran’s initial plan, and although Devan is killed, the driver’s involvement remains hidden to Bhadran and the others. The two men stage the death as a suicide, a deception Bhadran tries to sustain even after Iravi’s confession.

Bhadran’s last, desperate move is to abduct Anna atop the dam, hoping to escape. When Anna rejects him—having learned the full truth—Bhadran leaps from the dam with her, choosing death over exposure.

In the aftermath, life in Gavi settles into new rhythms. Kalyani and Iravi begin new chapters, with Iravi marrying her and finding a fresh start. Anna, too, moves forward, marrying Jose Mash. Suku and Iravi drift to different places as the end credits hint at them being reassigned to a new common route, suggesting the road ahead may hold unanticipated journeys for both.
