Mulla 2008

Lachi is a hard-working 19-year-old who supports her family after her father’s mysterious death. While traveling by train, Mulla, a gangster from the Karakkattu Colony, and his men board the carriage and bicker over petty issues. They discover a baby hidden in a bag on the train and, after a fruitless search for the parents, Mulla decides to adopt the child. Over time, the bond between them deepens, and the pair gradually fall in love, navigating a harsh world where loyalty and survival blur moral lines.

Lachi’s uncle, Bharathan, the police inspector who murdered Lachi’s father and the baby’s parents, aims to drive a wedge between them to guard his own dark secrets. In a cruel move to protect those secrets, he kills Mulla’s friend, Ambi, who had helped Bharathan carry out the earlier murder and keep the truth buried. The violence deepens the conflict between the lovers and the families, setting off a chain of confrontations that test everyone involved.

The feud comes to a head in a brutal clash between Mulla and Bharathan, a confrontation that ends with Mulla killing Bharathan and avenging Ambi’s death. Yet justice takes a back seat to sacrifice: Lachi ultimately confesses to the authorities that she committed the murder and is sent to prison, choosing to protect the man she loves and the fragile future they hoped to build together.

Five years pass, and Lachi returns to a dramatically changed world. Mulla has lost a leg in a fight between the colony residents and the police, a testament to the persistent conflict around them. The Karakkattu Colony has started a new business and enjoys a measure of prosperity, but what remains missing is Lachi’s presence. In time, the couple’s bond endures a long separation, and they are drawn back to each other as life in the colony evolves around their shared history. The story closes on a hopeful note: against all odds, Lachi and Mulla find a path to reunite, affirming that love and resilience can outlast even the deepest wounds.
