Spoilers ahead
Annan Thampi chronicles the lives of twin brothers Appu [Mammootty] and Achu [Mammootty], two halves of a family rent apart by rivalry. Their father, Ravunni [Janardhanan], a ballet artist, makes a painful choice to separate the boys, sending Appu away to live with relatives in Pollachi while Achu stays behind. The astrologer Madhava Panicker [Jayan Cherthala] forecasts that the brothers will remain lifelong rivals, and he advises that the only way to avoid escalating conflict is to keep them apart. When Appu resists the plan, Madhava Panicker threatens him, and the moment stirs a violent response: Appu, driven by anger, tries to kill the astrologer with a rock. The plan backfires dramatically when Madhava Panicker is seriously injured and dies, and Appu is captured after Madhava Panicker’s brother-in-law intervenes.
