William Broderick Crawford was an accomplished American actor born on December 9, 1911, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Known for his potent portrayal of Willie Stark in the film All the King's Men (1949), he won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He was often cast in tough-guy roles, which earned him recognition in the crime TV series Highway Patrol (1955-1959). Crawford was born into a family of vaudeville performers and had a taste for acting early in his life. He initially dabbled in radio and vaudeville before making his breakthrough in Broadway in 1937. His Hollywood journey began with a film debut in Woman Chases Man (1937) where he rapidly made a name for himself through a series of successful films throughout the 1930s and 40s. His role as Willie Stark in All the King's Men catapulted him to immense fame, earning him prestigious industry awards. Despite his successful career, Crawford had an ongoing struggle with alcohol addiction, which affected his personal and professional life.
