David Carradine: Movies, Awards & Box Office

David Carradine (/ˈkærədiːn/ KARR-ə-deen; born John Arthur Carradine Jr.; December 8, 1936 – June 3, 2009) was an accomplished American actor, director and producer. Carradine's career spanned over four decades and included a prolific 200 attributed appearances in film, television and on stage. He was best known for his role as a peace-loving Shaolin monk, Kwai Chang Caine, in the popular 1970s television series Kung Fu. Despite being a member of the prestigious Carradine family he had to earn his Hollywood stripes playing Atahuallpa in the Broadway play The Royal Hunt of the Sun. He worked under renowned director Martin Scorsese in Boxcar Bertha (1972) and Mean Streets (1973), and also played the eponymous role in Bound for Glory (1976) which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. Throughout his lifetime, Carradine had several encounters with the law and was arrested for a variety of offenses, typically involving substance abuse. His contributions to film continued to be recognized after his death, and he was posthumously inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum Hall of Fame in 2014.
