In 1973, Colonel James Cooper David Carradine — a seasoned U.S. airborne commando — travels to Vietnam with a clear mission: to liberate imprisoned American soldiers. He soon finds himself inside a North Vietnamese POW camp where other paratroopers and soldiers are held, and the camp is led by Captain Vinh Mako, a determined local commander.

As the war moves toward its end, Cooper rises as the highest-ranking officer in the camp, and he faces a grim future: he is to be sent to Hanoi to be prosecuted by the North Vietnamese. The camp commander, Vinh, receives an order to transfer Cooper to court. Instead of obeying the command, Vinh presents a bold proposition: he will help Cooper reach the American sector, and in return, Cooper will help Vinh emigrate to the United States, where Vinh has family.

Cooper is a tough, steadfast soldier who would rather sacrifice his own life than aid the enemy. Yet Vinh persists, warning that if Cooper refuses, all of the prisoners in the camp will die. Faced with that threat, Cooper reconsiders and accepts the deal, but with a crucial condition — all of the camp prisoners must go with them.

Time is of the essence, as Hanoi has set a deadline for Cooper’s transfer. With the plan approved, they begin their escape in a tight column of two jeeps and a tank truck. The prisoners are concealed in the tank truck while Cooper travels in a jeep with Vinh, moving together through perilous territory.

The journey is far from simple. They must pass through regions controlled by North Vietnamese forces and traverse dense jungle, facing continuous dangers and delays that test their resolve and ingenuity. Throughout this arduous trek, the alliance between Cooper and Vinh is tested by fear, loyalty, and the pressing need to reach safety before the clock runs out.

As they press on, the story unfolds as a tense, human-driven chase under the shadow of a collapsing war, where courage, negotiation, and risky gambits attempt to outpace a desperate geopolitical deadline. The unlikely partners navigate not only the physical obstacles of rugged terrain and hostile checkpoints but also the moral weight of their choices, all while the fate of the imprisoned soldiers—and their own futures—hangs in the balance.
