Stacy Keach, born as Walter Stacy Keach Jr. on June 2, 1941, is an American actor active in theatre, film, and television since the 1960s. Keach first distinguished himself in Off-Broadway productions and remains a prominent figure in American theatre throughout his career, particularly as a noted Shakespearean actor. His prestigious theatrical accolades include four Drama Desk Awards, two Helen Hayes Awards, and two Obie Awards for Distinguished Performance by an Actor. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in Arthur Kopit's 1969 production of Indians. Keach has gained critical acclaim for his portrayal in film like Fat City (1972) and his roles in films like Up in Smoke (1978), Nice Dreams (1981) and more. His other notable performances include American History X (1998), The Bourne Legacy (2012), and Nebraska (2013). In television, he is known for his role of private detective Mike Hammer and for being the narrator of the crime documentary series American Greed (2007–present). He is an inductee of the Theatre Hall of Fame and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019. Keach was born in Savannah, Georgia, to Mary Cain and Stacy Keach Sr., a theatre director, drama teacher, and actor. Keach, born with a cleft lip, underwent several operations as a child and now advocates for insurance coverage for the surgeries as the honorary chairman of the Cleft Palate Foundation.
