Delphine Seyrig was a Lebanese‑born French actress and filmmaker whose career spanned more than three decades, beginning in the early 1950s and concluding shortly before her death in 1990. Born on 10 April 1932 in Beirut to an intellectual Protestant family, she spent her childhood moving between Lebanon, New York and France, absorbing a multicultural environment that later enabled her to work fluently in French, English and German. After studying at the Comédie de Saint‑Étienne and the Actors Studio, she made an early television appearance in Sherlock Holmes (1954) before landing her breakthrough role as the enigmatic brunette in Alain Resnais’s Last Year at Marienbad (1961), a performance that earned her international acclaim and a swift relocation to Paris.
