John Christopher McGinley, born August 3, 1959, is an American actor renowned for his versatile repertoire ranging from films to television series. Some of his best-known portrayals include Perry Cox in Scrubs, Bob Slydell in Office Space, Captain Hendrix in The Rock, FBI agent Ben Harp in Point Break, and Marv in Oliver Stone's Wall Street. Additionally, his unique representation of the serial killer Edgler Foreman Vess in the TV miniseries of Intensity has given him phenomenal recognition. McGinley embarked on his acting journey at New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 1984. In his early days, McGinley diversified his career with off-Broadway and Broadway productions, along with a two-year term on the soap opera Another World.
In 1986, McGinley made his film debut in Alan Alda's Sweet Liberty, followed by acclaimed films like Platoon and Wall Street. As well as his acting career, he has been successful in voice-over work on animated television series and video games like Justice League Unlimited, The Boondocks, and Dead Head Fred. His performance as a serial killer in Dean Koontz's suspense drama Intensity in 1997 received critical acclaim, making it Fox Television's highest-rated miniseries. Directly after, in 2001 McGinley began work on the NBC television series Scrubs playing the unwilling mentor Dr. Perry Cox. Throughout his career, McGinley has also been engaged in other mediums like writing and had written a 2005 book titled Untalkative Bunny: How to be Heard Without Saying a Word.
