All You Need Is Kill 2026

Rita Vrataski, Ai Mikami, is a young soldier in the United Defense Force (UDF), tasked with approaching and studying Darol, a colossal extraterrestrial plant that landed on Earth a year earlier and had remained dormant until the annual milestone. On the aliens’ one-year anniversary, Darol suddenly sprouts monstrous vegetation that attacks the UDF. Rita is killed, but she wakes the next morning to find herself trapped in a relentless time loop.

Desperate to survive and understand the loop, Rita tries to escape by deserting the UDF and even by drowning, but every attempt resets to the same morning. With each pass, she grows more skilled at fighting the alien threat, yet the time loop stubbornly persists, and she experiences two resets without dying.

Rita soon encounters Keiji Kiriya, Natsuki Hanae, another UDF soldier who is also stuck in the loop and has been quietly watching her efforts. They realize they share the loop and that it resets whenever either of them dies, because they were both present when a particular class of time-manipulating aliens was killed before Rita’s death.

Together they attempt to kill that same alien again, hoping to break the cycle, but the loop resets in the normal pattern with no obvious change to the timeline.

They seek advice from Shasta Ray, Kana Hanazawa, a UDF scientist, who explains that Darol aims to wipe out humanity and is gradually assimilating them into itself through the loop. She warns that they may have only one or two chances left before they are fully absorbed.

Armed with this knowledge, Rita and Keiji climb Darol to strike its core. Keiji realizes that he is being subsumed first and argues that he must be sacrificed to end the threat. Rita refuses, insisting that both of them deserve a chance to live.

In the climactic moment, Rita defeats Darol, killing it and breaking the loop, returning to the morning before the attack. Darol is dead, and only Rita remembers the cause of its death.

Rita initially assumes Keiji died when he was assimilated, but a final reveal shows that he survived, though he no longer remembers the time loop or their shared experiences. The two share a tearful reunion.
