What's After the Movie
Daniel Wu Neh-Tsu, born on September 30, 1974, is a Hong Kong actor and filmmaker. He is recognized for his flexibility and distinctiveness as a leading actor of the Chinese language film industry. Since his film debut in 1998, Daniel Wu has been featured in more than 60 films and has garnered critical acclaim for his performances. A three-time Golden Horse Award winner, Wu also captured global attention when he starred in the AMC martial arts drama series, Into the Badlands, and the Disney+ wuxia action-comedy, American Born Chinese. Despite facing language barriers early in his career, Wu became proficient enough to successfully complete his first film, Bishonen in 1998. To date, his roles in big-budget thrillers, arthouse productions, and popular films like Purple Storm, Peony Pavilion, and Love Undercover have further solidified his status in the industry. Wu's first experience in film production arose when he starred in Night Corridor, in which he also participated in funding and distribution efforts due to budget constraints. In 2005, Wu ventured into new territories by forming a boy band called Alive, and in 2006 made his writing and directorial debut with The Heavenly Kings, a mockumentary that chronicles Alive's journey. Wu made a surprising contribution to the English films when he starred alongside Kevin Spacey in the bilingual film, Inseparable. From 2015 to 2019, he was featured as Sunny on the AMC action series Into the Badlands, serving as an executive producer as well.
