Christian Michael Leonard Slater made his first appearance as an actor with his lead role in The Legend of Billie Jean (1985) and got broader recognition for his breakthrough role, playing Jason "J.D." Dean in Heathers (1988). He garnered critical acclaim for his title role in the USA Network series, Mr. Robot (2015–2019) which earned him the Gold Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2016 and nominations in 2017 and 2018.

In the 1990s, Slater offered remarkable performances in numerous high-budget films including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) and Interview with the Vampire (1994), also several cult films and notable films such as True Romance (1993) and We Can Be Heroes (2020). Along with his live-action roles, Slater has also established an extensive voice-acting career with significant roles such as Pips in FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) and Ushari in The Lion Guard (2016–2019). Slater's personal life includes his marriages to Ryan Haddon and Brittany Lopez, and he is a father to four children.
