Timothy Hutton, born August 16, 1960, is an American actor and film director renowned as the youngest recipient of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, a feat he accomplished at age 20 for his sterling performance in 'Ordinary People' (1980). With a career spanning five decades, from 1965 to present, Hutton's repertoire includes feature films and television roles. Noteworthy among his performances are the drama 'Taps' (1981), the spy film 'The Falcon and the Snowman' (1985), and the horror film 'The Dark Half' (1993). Between 2000 and 2002, Hutton was a starring figure as Archie Goodwin in the A&E drama series 'A Nero Wolfe Mystery.' He also graced the screens as Nathan "Nate" Ford on the TNT drama series 'Leverage', a role he played between 2008 and 2012.

The actor was born in Malibu, California to actor Jim Hutton, and teacher Maryline Adams (née Poole). After their parents divorced when Hutton was just three years old, he, along with his older sister, Heidi, moved with their mother to Boston, then Harwinton, Connecticut, before returning to California when he was 12. Hutton began his acting career in television, getting his start in several TV movies before playing significant roles in feature films such as 'Ordinary People' and 'Taps'. At 15, he connected with his actor father, Jim Hutton, moving in with him in Los Angeles and under his encouragement, became more invested in his acting career.
