Richard Jordan, born Robert Anson Jordan Jr. (July 19, 1937 – August 30, 1993), was a respected American actor. A long-time member of the New York Shakespeare Festival, he was prominently active in many Off Broadway and Broadway plays. He has been renowned for his roles in films like Logan's Run, Les Misérables, Old Boyfriends, Raise the Titanic, The Friends of Eddie Coyle, The Yakuza, Interiors, The Bunker, Dune, The Secret of My Success, Timebomb, The Hunt for Red October, Posse and Gettysburg. He was born in New York City in an esteemed family. His maternal grandfather Learned Hand was a respected judge and his mother later married Newbold Morris, president of the New York City Council. He attended the Hotchkiss School and Harvard University. After graduation, he studied at the Universite du Theatre des Nations in Paris. Jordan began his acting career on Broadway. He made a name for himself in television productions, appearing in episodes of various popular series. He also performed in Shakespeare's plays with Joseph Papp's Public Theater. His film career began in 1970 and he continued performing in stage productions. His captivating performances earned him a Golden Globe award in 1976. He co-starred in an acclaimed television production of The Bunker in 1981. Following this, he performed in the television series The Equalizer. He won an Obie award for his appearance in New York in the Czech playwright Václav Havel's A Private View. In 1993, his last film Gettysburg was released posthumously and was dedicated to him.
