Paul Feig (/fiːɡ/; born September 17, 1962) is an esteemed American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He is most celebrated for his directing talents displayed in successful films such as Bridesmaids (2011), The Heat (2013), Spy (2015), Ghostbusters (2016), A Simple Favor (2018), and Last Christmas (2019). A regular collaborator with actress Melissa McCarthy, Feig also holds credits for creating the comedy series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000) and Other Space (2015). In addition, he directed several episodes of popular shows including Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Recreation, among others. He was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for writing on Freaks and Geeks, and two for producing and directing on The Office. Born and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan, Feig moved to Los Angeles after a year at Wayne State University and transferred to the University of Southern California. His early work includes minor roles in various television shows and films, and a stand-up comedy act. His directorial journey started with Freaks and Geeks, which, despite having a short run, maintains a devoted cult following and frequent high-ranked placements on the best shows lists.
