Mary Rose Byrne, who is professionally known as Rose Byrne, is an Australian actress renowned for her array of roles in both Australian and American cinema. Born on 24th July 1979, Byrne's career in the film industry began in 1994 with the film Dallas Doll. She then continued to act in Australian film and television throughout the 90s. Byrne achieved her first leading role in the film The Goddess of 1967 (2000), a performance which earned her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. She was first noticed on the international scene with a small role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), after which she moved into larger parts in Hollywood productions including Troy (2004), 28 Weeks Later (2007), and Knowing (2009).

Byrne further gained acclaim for her role as Ellen Parsons in the legal thriller series Damages (2007–2012), earning her nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Moving into the comedy genre, Byrne has become known for roles in Get Him to the Greek (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), Neighbors (2014), Spy (2015), and Instant Family (2018). She has also shown her versatility with roles in the horror films Insidious (2010) and its sequels, the superhero film X-Men: First Class (2011) and its sequel X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), and the family film Peter Rabbit (2018) and its sequel Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021).
