Lois Maureen Stapleton (June 21, 1925 – March 13, 2006) was an American actress. She was a highly recognized and acclaimed actress who received numerous accolades. One of her significant achievements is being one of the few actors to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting winning an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards. Additonally, she won a British Academy Film Award, a Golden Globe Award, and received a nomination for a Grammy Award. Stapleton's career started in theatre with her Broadway debut in The Playboy of the Western World in 1946. Some of her recognized roles include The Rose Tattoo, for which she received two Tony Awards; The Gingerbread Lady; and a variety of roles in television. Stapleton's accolades in film include the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Reds, with additional Oscar nominations for Lonelyhearts, Airport, and Interiors.

Aside from being an esteemed and talented actress, Stapleton had other strings to her bow. She was also a model and salesgirl to make ends meet. She was given a life achievement honor with her induction into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1981. Despite suffering from anxiety and alcoholism for many years, she contributed significantly to the film and television industry. Stapleton cited Mira Rostova as her most influential acting teacher. Her legacy includes hosting the 19th episode of Season 4 of NBC's Saturday Night Live in 1979. She also had a longtime friendship with Marilyn Monroe. Stapleton's personal life included two marriages: to Max Allentuck and playwright David Rayfiel, as well as two children.
