During a Swiss holiday, American professor Adam repeatedly encounters divorced British secretary Patricia. Their first meetings involve a car crash and a ski‑slope collision that break both their legs. Despite continual arguments they fall in love, marry quickly, and keep fighting. When Patricia leaves, Adam stages a fake suicide, making them lose and find each other repeatedly.
