Lois Maxwell: Movies & Box Office

Lois Ruth Maxwell (née Hooker; February 14, 1927 – September 29, 2007) was a Canadian actress remembered for portraying Miss Moneypenny in the first fourteen Eon-produced James Bond films (1962–1985). Her film career began in the late 1940s, and she earned the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her performance in That Hagen Girl (1947). Subsequent small film roles led her to Italy, where she worked in film from 1951 to 1955. After marrying, she moved to the United Kingdom, where she appeared in multiple television productions, and later to Canada, and Switzerland. In the James Bond film series, she worked alongside her former RADA classmate, Roger Moore. Moore and Maxwell were on-screen colleagues from Live and Let Die (1973) to A View to a Kill (1985). After her husband's death in the 1970s, Maxwell returned to Canada and began writing a weekly column for the Toronto Sun under the pseudonym Miss Moneypenny and worked in the textile industry. She settled in Perth, Western Australia, in 2001, after she was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and remained there until her death in 2007.
