Sir Thomas Sean Connery (25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was a legendary Scottish actor renowned for being the first to portray the iconic character, James Bond, on film. He starred in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983 starting with Dr. No and including From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and a non-Eon Bond film, Never Say Never Again. His powerful portrayals earned him international fame and imprinted the James Bond character into the world’s cultural psyche. Connery’s acting career wasn’t limited to James Bond; he demonstrated his acting prowess in collaborations with esteemed directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet, and John Huston in films like Marnie, The Hill, The Offence, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Man Who Would Be King. Connery also starred in Robin and Marian, A Bridge Too Far, Time Bandits, Highlander, The Name of the Rose, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, Dragonheart, The Rock and Finding Forrester. His last on-screen role was as Allan Quatermain in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. His distinguished career saw him awarded numerous accolades including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables, the first Scottish actor to achieve this honor. Furthermore, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama in 2000.
