David Hemmings: Movies & Box Office

Born on the 18th of November, 1941, David Edward Leslie Hemmings was an acclaimed English actor, director, and producer. Revered for his roles in British films and television programmes, notably during '50s, '60s, and '70s, Hemmings was particularly renowned for his leading roles in the avant-garde mystery film, Blowup (1966) and the horror film, Deep Red (1975). Early on, Hemmings was a boy soprano appearing in operatic roles and went on to co-found the Hemdale Film Corporation in 1967. Although Hemmings' career began with music and acting, he gradually moved to directing and achieved significant success. He directed many famous figures including David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich in his film Schöner Gigolo, armer Gigolo (1978). From the mid-'70s, Hemmings shifted to character roles and appeared in important works such as the historical epic Gladiator (2000) and the spy film Spy Game (2001). His final film appearance was in the horror film Blessed (2004), featuring Heather Graham. As a multitalented individual, Hemmings also had a recording career. In 1967, he recorded a pop single titled 'Back Street Mirror' and a studio album titled David Hemmings Happens.
