Vijay, Akshay Kumar Saigal, is the disciplined, business-minded heir who runs Saigal Industries with a steady hand, while his younger brother Vicky Saif Ali Khan Saigal lives more in the moment, flirting with life and with people around him. They are sons of Bhanupratap Saigal Saeed Jaffrey Saigal, the wealthy patriarch whose name commands respect in both boardrooms and dining rooms.

Sapna, Kajol, a successful fashion model, is the daughter of their family’s chauffeur Dharampal. Despite her modest background, Sapna is ambitious and self-reliant, determined to write her own path in life. Shanti Reema Lagoo Saigal, the matriarch, disapproves of Sapna’s lower-status ties and presses Dharampal to send Sapna away to Bombay, raising the stakes for the entire family.

As Vicky pursues Sapna with unwavering persistence, Vijay, initially trying to help his brother, begins to see Sapna with new eyes and falls for her own quiet strength and warmth. Sapna, in turn, develops mutual feelings for Vijay, though she remains wary of the social chasm between them.

The situation grows tangled when both brothers confess their love for Sapna. Vicky, thinking Vijay is backing their relationship, remains ignorant of the deeper, mutual attraction blossoming between the two lovers. Meanwhile, Shanti threatens to dismiss Dharampal if he does not take Sapna away, and father and daughter prepare to depart.

In a moment of despair, Vicky attempts suicide to force his mother to reconsider. This act jolts the family and finally leads Shanti to relent and consent to the marriage of Vijay and Sapna.

The film also features a fleeting appearance by Karisma Kapoor as the girl on the road, a small twist that underscores the social boundaries at play in the Saigal world.

Yet the truth comes to light, and Vicky makes a selfless choice: he steps aside and offers his blessing to Vijay and Sapna, choosing family harmony over his own happiness. The film closes with a hopeful note as Vicky encounters a new romantic interest, Anjali, signaling that love may yet flourish for him as well.
