Hazari Prasad, a miserly and calculating patriarch, schemes to secure a rich dowry for his son Raja Prasad, a college student with a taste for wild parties. Raja meets the beautiful and arrogant Madhu Mehra, and their initial clash gives way to a dynamic relationship full of wit and push-pull banter. He pretends to be blind to tease her, she discovers the ruse, and their playful game quickly blossoms into something deeper.

Hazari seeks to bolt Raja into a marriage with a high dowry by fabricating a network of wealthy-seeming connections, leveraging his own entanglement with the wastepaper business to blur Raja’s prospects. A chance encounter with Madhu’s wealthy father, Durgesh, sets the stage for an alliance, but once the truth about Hazari’s manipulations surfaces, Madhu and Raja push back against their fathers’ plans and the social façade they’ve been offered.

During a weekend college retreat, Madhu accuses Raja of attempting to assault her, staining his reputation. He rebukes her for dishonesty, arguing that many seek revenge, yet he is different. Paradoxically, this clash also stirs genuine affection: Madhu begins to fall for Raja, and he slowly returns those feelings as well. Durgesh, upon discovering Hazari’s true machinations, insults him, and a widening rift forms between the families. The couple is forbidden to see one another, but they persist in meeting in secret, testing the limits of loyalty and love.

Durgesh’s discovery leads him to hire thugs to beat Raja; the struggle ends with Raja slipping into the Mehra household to marry Madhu, defying the ban. Durgesh banishes Madhu from the family home, and Hazari disowns Raja, who then moves into a small shack with Madhu and takes up work as a construction worker. Poverty and hardship mark their early married life, yet they cling to hope and to each other, finding strength in their bond.

Tragedy and crisis strike when Raja is injured at a construction site. Madhu pleads with Hazari for money to fund an emergency operation, but Hazari’s price is steep: a divorce from Raja. He forces Madhu to remove her wedding necklace and return to Durgesh, who forgives her but forbids contact with Raja. After the recovery, Hazari fabricates a lie that Madhu never visited him in the hospital, feeding Raja’s belief that she deserted him and prompting his return home.

In a crucial turning point, Raja learns that Madhu was being blackmailed by Hazari. His mother, Savitri, confirms the truth, and Raja races to stop Madhu from boarding a plane to London. He arrives just in time, discovering she hasn’t left, and the lovers reunite. With the deceit exposed and confronted, Hazari and Durgesh begin to repent for their deeds, and the couple’s perseverance is rewarded with a reconciliation. The story closes on a note of happiness, where the families acknowledge their wrongs and the two continue their life together, stronger for the trials they endured.
