Having been nominated six times for the Academy Award for Best Actress, Kerr became the first person from Scotland to be nominated for an acting Oscar. Her performances in films like The King and I, Separate Tables and From Here to Eternity remain classic displays of her talent.

Kerr's career began when she trained as a ballet dancer at Sadler's Wells in 1938 and later transitioned to acting. In 1943, she made her West End debut in a revival of Heartbreak House. She eventually moved to Hollywood and secured a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Throughout her career, she showcased her versatility through several diverse roles, from reserved English ladies to sensuous characters. She garnered fame for her performances on stage, television, and cinema. Although her career took her away from home frequently, she remained dedicated to acting and known for her perfection, discipline, and elegance. Her legacy as an artist continues to inspire people.
