Yôsuke Natsuki (Japanese: 夏木陽介, born February 27, 1936 in Tokyo, Japan) was a prolific Japanese actor whose career spanned six decades, from his debut in 1958 until his final film appearance in 2012. He first entered the cinematic world through Toho Company, appearing as a minor character in the science‑fiction film The H‑Man, and quickly became known for his versatility, moving between supporting roles in kaiju productions and notable appearances in prestigious auteur films. In 1961 he earned a memorable spot in Akira Kurosawa’s classic Yojimbo, playing the son of a minor character, an experience that helped secure the Elan d’Or Award for Newcomer of the Year the same year. During the 1970s Natsuki left Toho and joined Toshiro Mifune’s own production company, a decision that broadened his opportunities and solidified his reputation as a dependable character actor. He is perhaps best remembered by television audiences for his role as Odagiri in the long‑running police drama G‑Men ’75, which showcased his charisma and on‑screen authority. Concurrently, Natsuki remained a staple in Toho’s monster movie lineage, appearing in titles such as Dogora, Ghidorah, the Three‑Headed Monster, and the 1984 revival The Return of Godzilla, where he portrayed the diligent Professor Makoto Hayashida. Beyond acting, Natsuki pursued a passion for motorsport, participating twice in the grueling Dakar Rally as a racing driver, an unusual crossover that highlighted his adventurous spirit. His later years saw him in cameo and supporting roles in contemporary productions, including Sakura Sakura (2010) and his final credited appearance in Kirin (2012). Natsuki passed away on January 14, 2018 in Tokyo, leaving behind a legacy of over a hundred film and television credits that reflect the evolution of post‑war Japanese cinema.
