Natively from New York City, Gierasch decided to pursue his passion in acting and honed his skills at the Actors Studio. His career was incredibly long-standing, beginning in 1951 and lasting until 2009. Over these years, Gierasch made well over 100 screen appearances, primarily in American television. Gierasch's repertoire was vast and diverse; he participated in various genres and roles, leaving his stamp in countless memorable performances.

In the mid-1960s, Gierasch was associated with the Trinity Square Players in Rhode Island. He contributed to dozens of films such as 'The Hustler', 'What's Up, Doc?', 'Carrie' and 'Perfect', among many others.
