Selena Marie Gomez, born July 22, 1992, is an American singer, actress, producer, songwriter, and businesswoman known for her success in both the music and film industries. Her career took off when she landed a role on the children's television series Barney & Friends (2002–2004), but she truly rose to fame for her leading role on the Disney Channel sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012). Establishing herself as a pop idol, Gomez signed with Hollywood Records in 2008 and formed the band Selena Gomez & the Scene.
