Steve Buscemi, born as Steven Vincent Buscemi, is an American actor known for his acclaimed character roles, especially during the 1990s. His early credits include major roles in independent films like Parting Glances (1986), Mystery Train (1989), and In the Soup (1992). His breakout role was as Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1992). Buscemi has starred in both independent and mainstream films such as Con Air (1997), Big Fish (2003), and The Death of Stalin (2017). He is known for his collaboration with the Coen brothers and has appeared in films like Fargo (1996) and The Big Lebowski (1998). He has also assumed supporting roles in numerous films with Adam Sandler. In addition to his film work, he has had an extensive career in television, most notably starring in HBO's Boardwalk Empire (2010–2014).

Born on December 13, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York City, Buscemi's father was a sanitation worker, and his mother was a hostess at Howard Johnson's. His paternal ancestors hailed from Sicily, Italy, and his mother was of English and Dutch ancestry. He has three brothers, one of whom, Michael, is also an actor. Buscemi graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1975. He briefly worked as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department from 1980 to 1984. After the 9/11 attacks, he temporarily rejoined his old firehouse and volunteered at the World Trade Center site. Apart from acting, Buscemi has directed films like Trees Lounge (1996), Animal Factory (2000), and Interview (2007).
