Childhood friends Faith (Selena Gomez), Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), and Cotty (Rachel Korine) find themselves the last few remaining souls on their deserted college campus. With most of their classmates having migrated south to Florida for spring break, the girls feel an undeniable urgency to join in on the fun. In a brazen move, Brit, Candy, and Cotty devise a plan to rob a local fast-food joint to fund their getaway. Cotty takes the wheel while Brit and Candy storm the establishment armed with a hammer and a toy gun. After scoring hundreds of dollars and torching the getaway car, they present their ill-gotten gains to Faith, who wrestles with her conscience but ultimately decides to overlook their crime in favor of enjoying a free vacation.
Upon their arrival in Florida, the quartet dives headfirst into the chaotic culture of spring break—engaging in endless drinking, rampant drug use, and raucous partying. Faith feels an almost spiritual connection to Florida, believing she is finally discovering her true self amidst the swirling chaos. Days slip away in a haze of cocktails, beach escapades, and flirtatious encounters with other “spring breakers.” However, Faith becomes uneasy when Brit and Candy recount their harrowing robbery, detailing how they frightened innocent patrons by threatening their lives. Witnessing her friends revel in their shocking antics leaves Faith feeling disillusioned.
The girls’ adventure takes a twist when they catch their first glimpse of Alien (James Franco), a flamboyant drug-dealing rapper, at a beachside concert. Alien, who boasts about being from another planet, embodies the wild spirit of spring break. The group later finds themselves at a frenetic party in a motel, where they indulge in cocaine and create a ruckus, eventually landing in the county jail for the night. They emerge in court the next day still dressed in their bikinis, facing a judge who offers them a choice: pay a fine or spend two more nights in jail. Just when it seems they might be stuck, Alien swoops in to post their bail, clearly intrigued by the girls.
As Alien greets Faith, Brit, Candy, and Cotty outside the jail, he wants to introduce them to his world. While the other girls eagerly jump into Alien’s flashy car, Faith remains skeptical, especially when she learns that he peddles drugs. That night, they attend a party where older men leer at them, prompting Faith to feel overwhelmed and leading her to decide to return home, marking her last appearance in the film. Meanwhile, the remaining trio chooses to stay and live with Alien, who shows them his lavish lifestyle, complete with guns, piles of cash, and memorabilia from Scarface. In an unexpected turn, Brit and Candy playfully point guns at Alien, commanding him to kneel before them, igniting a twisted connection amongst them as Alien declares they are his soul mates.
Alien then whisks the girls away to a strip club where he showers them with cash to toss at the dancers. He soon introduces them to Big Arch (Gucci Mane), a menacing drug lord who threatens Alien, emphasizing that he completely dominates the local drug scene. While Alien pretends to shake off Big Arch’s intimidation, he outfits Brit, Candy, and Cotty in matching swimwear, ski masks, and sweatpants. The girls then plunge into a spree of armed robberies at spring break parties, their boldness escalating with each heist until violence takes center stage, particularly for Brit and Candy.
As tensions rise, Big Arch becomes increasingly threatened by Alien’s activities. One night, his men retaliate and shoot at Alien’s vehicle, wounding Cotty in the arm, which leads her to retreat to the safety of home in tears. Alien, fueled by revenge, aligns himself with Brit and Candy, and the trio finds themselves entangled in a wild sexual encounter in his pool. Alien professes his love, and Brit and Candy play supportive daughters on the phone to their mothers, feigning their Spring Break escapades as wholesome.
Clad in vibrant bikinis and ski masks, Brit and Candy commandeer Alien’s boat, heading toward Big Arch’s opulent mansion. As they arrive, a bodyguard opens fire on Alien, striking him fatally in the head. In a shocking turn, Brit and Candy retaliate, killing the guards and ultimately confronting Big Arch, whom they execute in his bathtub. With the sunlight rising over Florida one last time, the psychologically scarred friends drive away with Big Arch’s luxurious sports car, leaving behind the chaos and crime that has consumed them, exchanging kisses over Alien’s lifeless body before vanishing into the unknown.
