Peter Henry Fonda (February 23, 1940 – August 16, 2019) was a revered American actor, film director, and screenwriter. A double nominee and winner at the Academy and Golden Globe Awards, he became a celebrated figure in the Fonda acting dynasty. As the son of actor Henry Fonda and brother of actress and activist Jane Fonda, he carved his own path in Hollywood. He made a start in theater and bagged a New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and Theatre World Award for the play 'Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole'. He rose to prominence during the counterculture era of the 1960s, starring in and writing for the groundbreaking film 'Easy Rider' (1969). His directorial debut came with 'The Hired Hand' (1971).

Throughout the 1970s, Fonda cemented his reputation as an action star. His career revival came with the drama film 'Ulee's Gold' (1997), for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. Fonda was also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. He had a long and varied career, making a mark in theater, film, and television alike. He was a lifelong motorcyclist and a dedicated activist, vocal in his political and environmental stances.
