Nicholas Farrell: Movies & Box Office

Nicholas C. Frost, known professionally as Nicholas Farrell, is an English stage, film, and television actor with a career spanning decades. Born in 1955 in Brentwood, Essex, he was educated at Fryerns Grammar and Technical School in Basildon, Essex. Subsequently, he furthered his education studying acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Farrell's early screen career was marked by his portrayal of Aubrey Montague in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire. Following that, he played key roles in adaptations of novels and Shakespeare's works, including the role of Edmund Bertram in a television adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, Mansfield Park in 1983. He also starred in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, and The Jewel in the Crown. His flair for Shakespearean roles was evident in Kenneth Branagh's 1996 Hamlet where he played Horatio. This was a role he perfected with Branagh for the Royal Shakespeare Company. His Shakespearean procession didn't end there as he would appear in film adaptations of Twelfth Night, Othello, and In the Bleak Midwinter, even lending his voice for an animated television adaptation, Shakespeare: The Animated Tales. Farrell's theatre work includes revivals of The Cherry Orchard, Camille, and The Crucible, along with Royal Shakespeare Company productions such as The Merchant of Venice and Julius Caesar. On the small screen, Farrell's versatile acting skills landed him roles in popular shows like Foyle's War, Spooks, Midsomer Murders, Torchwood, Call the Midwife, and Casualty, among many others.
