Keiji Fujiwara (藤原 啓治, Fujiwara Keiji; October 5, 1964 – April 12, 2020) was a prolific Japanese actor and voice actor whose career spanned more than three decades, leaving an indelible mark on anime, video games, and Western film dubbing. Born in Tokyo and raised largely in Iwate Prefecture, he discovered his passion for performance early, forming a high‑school band and later enrolling in the prestigious Bungakuza acting school, where he honed his craft on stage throughout the 1980s before transitioning to voice work in the early 1990s with Ken Production. His breakout role came as Hiroshi Nohara, the bumbling yet loving father in the long‑running series Crayon Shin‑chan, a character he voiced until his final years, endearing him to generations of fans. Beyond that iconic part, Fujiwara lent his distinct voice to a remarkable roster of characters—including Maes Hughes in Fullmetal Alchemist, Holland Novak in Eureka Seven, Axel in the Kingdom Hearts series, Leorio in Hunter × Hunter, Shiro Fujimoto in Blue Exorcist, and Zenzo Hattori in Gintama—showcasing a versatile range that earned him respect across multiple genres. He became the go‑to Japanese dubbing voice for Robert Downey Jr., most famously embodying Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which cemented his status as a bridge between Japanese and Western pop culture. In 2006 he founded Air Agency, a talent management and production company that also released drama CDs and staged live events; he later served as a regular lecturer at Japan Newart College. After an unspecified illness was diagnosed in 2016, Fujiwara continued to work where possible, returning briefly in 2017 before succumbing to cancer at Tokyo Medical Hospital on April 12, 2020, at the age of 55.
