Gladys George, born Gladys Clare Evans on September 13, 1904, was an esteemed American actress whose career spanned across stage and screen. Making her theatrical debut at a tender age of 3, George went on to star in numerous productions in the 1920s. Her parents, both British actors, played a significant role in her early exposure to the performing arts. Despite her early start in films during the first part of the 1920s, her most notable performance was a leading role in 'Valiant Is the Word for Carrie' (1936), where she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. However, the bulk of her career revolved around supporting roles in noteworthy films such as 'Marie Antoinette' (1938), 'The Roaring Twenties'(1939), and 'The Maltese Falcon' (1941). George's later career saw her feature in 'The Best Years of Our Lives' (1946), and 'Flamingo Road' (1949). Her personal life was marred by multiple marriages and health issues, but she continued contributing to the industry until 1954. She succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage the same year in Los Angeles, California, at age 50.
