Farley Earle Granger Jr. (July 1, 1925 – March 27, 2011) was a prominent American actor, singer, and acting coach. He was first discovered in a small stage production in Hollywood by a Goldwyn casting director. This opportunity led to a significant role in The North Star, a controversial film praising the Soviet Union at the height of World War II. Granger’s naval service in Honolulu, which arranged troop entertainment in the Pacific brought him into contact with famous personalities like Bob Hope, Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth. This period also began his exploration of his bisexuality. His acting prowess was demonstrated in Hitchcock's Rope, a fictionalized account of the Leopold and Loeb murder case of 1924, which garnered him critical acclaim. Granger continued his appearance on stage, film, and television well into his 70s, with roles in major Italian-language films and Broadway dramas. He also conducted major documentaries about Hollywood. Granger has a star located at 1551 Vine Street on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to television.
