In a grittier, shadow-filled New York City, the murder of Police Lieutenant Martin triggers a desperate push to restore order as gang violence gnaws at the city’s nerves. The case initially goes cold when Jake Irbell is arrested for the crime, only to unravel as prosecution witnesses are coerced or disappear, leaving the truth maddeningly out of reach.
A civilian crime commission pushes for drastic action, and William Valcross, a respected citizen and member of that panel, champions a bold solution: bring in Simon Templar, the legendary “Saint,” a British amateur detective known for crossing lines to dismantle criminals. The police commissioner, reluctantly reluctant at first, ultimately grants the Saint the freedom to operate outside traditional boundaries if it means delivering results.
