A Martian teenager named Go Go is sent to Earth to pave the way for a larger invasion, but his landing goes wrong when the power-pack on his back malfunctions, leaving him suspended several feet above the ground. He is saved by the first Earthling he meets, an eccentric widow named Aunt Wendy, Elsa Lanchester. Aunt Wendy’s own life is tangled with trouble and peculiarities, and she soon finds herself the target of a scheming trio: J. Sinister Hulk, Jesse White; Chief Rotten Eagle, Buster Keaton; and Helga, a bikini-clad Swedish bombshell Bobbie Shaw Chance. Together, they plot to steal Aunt Wendy’s million-dollar inheritance, hoping to push her fortunes into their hands.

A parallel thread follows a motorcycle gang led by Eric von Zipper, a leather-clad troublemaker who harbors a ridiculous animosity toward beachgoers and their surfer boyfriends. Harvey Lembeck brings this roguish energy to the town’s chaotic landscape, as the gang crosses paths with Connie, played by Annette Funicello. Connie has a crush on a volleyball-loving loner known as Big Lunk, a character brought to life by Jody McCrea. She flirts with Go Go, hoping he will notice her, but Go Go’s attention is divided and his feelings remain unsettled as he learns more about Earth and its social circles.

The plot thickens when Helga is assigned to win Big Lunk’s trust to uncover the whereabouts of Aunt Wendy’s money. Although Helga cannot speak English, her attempts at romance create a comic tension as she genuinely begins to fall for Big Lunk, complicating the scheme and adding a layer of miscommunication that characters on both sides must navigate.

As Go Go’s mood darkens in the wake of Connie’s absence, the story builds to a climactic pajama party where loyalties are tested and secrets are revealed. It is at this late-night gathering that Go Go decides to act as a conduit of truth, feeding information to prevent Earth from being overrun and proving his value beyond mere scavenger arrival. In the aftermath, he is joyfully reunited with Connie, and the world breathes a sigh of relief as peace is restored.

The closing turns up the science-fiction whimsy: Go Go teleports J. Sinister Hulk, Fleegle, and Chief Rotten Eagle to Mars, much to Big Bang’s consternation. A new, if fragile, policy takes hold—Earth agrees to leave Mars alone, and Mars agrees to stay out of Earth’s affairs. The friendship between Go Go and Connie is solidified, and the two sides acknowledge that cooperation and restraint are the keys to mutual safety.
