Terry Ann Garr, known as Teri Garr, was born on December 11, 1944, and she died on October 29, 2024. She was a renowned American actress particularly lauded for her comedic roles in film and television in the 1970s and 1980s. She received nominations for an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award for her performance in Tootsie (1982) as a struggling actress who loses a pivotal soap opera role to her male friend and acting coach.

After spending two years attending college, she moved to New York City and studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute. She gained significant attention for her roles in films such as Francis Ford Coppola's thriller The Conversation and Mel Brooks's comedy horror Young Frankenstein. Continued success followed with major roles in films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and The Black Stallion (1979). In the 1980s, she continued to garner acclaim for her roles in films such as One from the Heart (1982), Mr. Mom (1983), and After Hours (1985). Garr announced her retirement from acting in 2011 following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
