During WWII, submarine commander Casey Abbott (Ronald Reagan) leads his crew on a perilous mission to capture a new Japanese mine. Nurse Helen Blair (Nancy Davis), Abbott’s on‑and‑off lover, provides medical support. When the sub must abandon frogman Wes Barton, Abbott’s second‑in‑command suspects the decision was driven by Barton’s pursuit of Helen, sparking tension aboard.
