Amirchand [Kader Khan] is the ill-fated father of two mischievous sons—Sonu [Sanjay Dutt] and Monu [Govinda]—whose every prank revolves around taking money from him. In the opening scene, the pair dial up their father, pretending to be gangsters, and demand a colossal sum just to keep him alive, only to discover that Amirchand is the driver of the taxi they’re trying to escape in. The accidental reversal sets a tone of comic chaos that threads through the entire film.

Their next scheme targets a family arrangement: they fix up the marriage of their father with Shakuntala [Bindu Desai] and sequester a lakh rupees as advance dowry from her brother Jamnadas [Govardhan Asrani]. The plan unravels when Amirchand refuses to entertain Jamnadas and his sister, exposing the family’s pretensions and the fragility of their schemes. The setback earns the ire—and concern—of Amirchand, who warns his sons that if they want to stay under his roof, they must straighten out. He assigns Monu to join an office and sends Sonu to Goa to recover a loan he had given someone.

In Goa, Sonu stumbles into a new romance when he visits a local debtor and meets Pooja Verma [Pooja Batra], while Monu’s mischief continues as he flirts with Ritu Verma [Karisma Kapoor], Gulzarilal Verma’s daughter. Gulzarilal [Anupam Kher] is a formidable father figure in their lives, a man who holds the keys to the girls’ affections and to their family’s social standing. Both daughters become focal points of the evolving love stories: Sonu falls for Pooja, and Monu finds himself drawn to Ritu.

To manage the mounting confusion, Sonu and Monu decide to bring the two families together by staging a wedding alliance in Goa, with Monu posing as an Uncle. The ruse spirals into further chaos when Gulzarilal’s sister Santho [Aruna Irani] falls for Monu, who remains in disguise as the Uncle. The situation grows nearly unbearable as the two brothers juggle fake identities, genuine affections, and the fear of exposure.

To salvage the mess, Sonu and Monu theatrically dump a dummy of the “Uncle” from a cliff, hoping it will quiet the turmoil. But the stunt backfires, and they find themselves arrested for the murder of the non-existent uncle. This blunder pushes Amirchand to Goa, accompanied by his loyal aide Kunj Bihari [Satish Kaushik], where a startling revelation awaits: Amirchand and Gulzarilal are not just acquaintances but long-lost friends.

The pairs’ mutual histories pull them toward a reconciliation that seems improbable under the circumstances. As they head toward the nearest police station to sort out the truth, they are kidnapped by a Bhai, deepening the peril for everyone involved. In a dramatic turn of events, Sonu and Monu manage a daring escape from lockup with the aid of Bhoothnath [Paresh Rawal], and together they mount a rescue operation to free their father and Gulzarilal. In the end, their perseverance earns them more than freedom: it proves them to be worthy sons who can bridge past grievances with present loyalties, uniting the families and restoring a fragile, comic harmony to their lives.
