Ganga, raised by foster parents in a village, discovers he is the biological son of millionaire Avinash and Radha. Ganga Govinda, also known as Gangaram, leads a simple life in a rural village with his mother Reema Lagoo and father Shivaji Satham, and his lover and childhood friend, Saavni Sonali Bendre.
When the time comes for Ganga to marry, his parents reveal that his biological parents live in the city and want him to settle there. Ganga bids a tearful farewell to his fellow villagers and travels to the city where his birth parents live. There he meets his elder brother, who is married to Supriya Supriya Karnik, along with his younger siblings, as well as his wealthy birth parents, Avinash Shakti Kapoor and Radha Himani Shivpuri.
Ganga struggles to cope with modern city life, and his sister-in-law, Supriya Karnik, grows to dislike him.
