In a captivating twist of fate, Madhukar "Madhu" Bhagla (Ishaan Khatter), a bright young college student from a humble middle-class background, stumbles upon an unexpected windfall when he emerges victorious in a competitive eating contest. As the prize is bestowed upon him by Parthavi Singh (Janhvi Kapoor), a strong-willed and independent individual hailing from a powerful, affluent upper-caste family, their paths are forever intertwined. Madhu's friend Purshottam (Shridhar Watsar) inadvertently plays cupid when he discovers Parthavi in a serene lakeside setting, prompting Madhu to make a lasting impression on her. Although their mutual attraction is yet to be acknowledged, the seeds of romance have been sown.

As fate would have it, Madhu returns to his family's village cafe, where his father implores him to steer clear of Parthavi due to the vast social and economic chasm between them. Undeterred, Madhu initially ignores Parthavi at college, but their paths converge once more when she catches him lingering around her. The two confess their love for each other, and they begin sneaking around behind the scenes. With his heart on his sleeve, Madhu dares to ask Parthavi for a kiss, only to be met with a tantalizing challenge: attending her brother Roop's birthday party. As the night wears on, their passion reaches a boiling point, culminating in a fiery kiss that is soon discovered by Parthavi's family members.

The fallout is swift and brutal, as Parthavi's father, politician Ratan Singh (Ashutosh Rana), and her brother unleash their wrath upon Madhu and his friends. However, the inspector intervenes, ordering them to hold off until the election results are announced. It transpires that Ratan has invested heavily in his political aspirations, making him averse to taking any drastic action before the outcome is certain.

Once the elections are concluded, Madhu and his friends find themselves arrested on trumped-up charges engineered by Parthavi's father. In desperation, Parthavi begs her father to release them, but he remains unmoved. The situation escalates when she seizes a gun in a fit of rage and threatens to take drastic action if Madhu isn't freed. As the drama unfolds, Madhu rushes to her side, and together they make a daring escape.

With the authorities hot on their heels, the star-crossed lovers board a train bound for Mumbai, where Madhu contacts his maternal uncle, who helps them navigate their way to Nagpur. Amidst the chaos and uncertainty that surrounds them, Madhu and Parthavi must confront the consequences of their actions and find a way to secure a future together.

As a last resort, Madhu's uncle urges the couple to seek refuge in Kolkata, where they're forced to start anew. The city welcomes them with a modest abode and humble occupations - Madhu takes up a job at a bustling roadside eatery, having picked up Bengali during his tenure, while Parthavi finds solace in the monotony of a call center. One fateful day, Madhu decides to surprise Parthavi with a brand-new phone, bought with the fruits of his labor. As he arrives at her office, he's met with an unsettling sight: Parthavi beaming with joy, her manager by her side. Convinced that she's been unfaithful, Madhu retreats home, his heart heavy with grief.

The fallout is inevitable, and their argument escalates to a fever pitch. In the heat of the moment, Madhu's anger boils over, and he slaps Parthavi. This pivotal moment marks a turning point in her perspective - she begins to question why she fled with him in the first place. Parthavi disappears for a brief period, only to reappear in her office, where Madhu realizes just how deeply he loves her. He extends an olive branch, proposing marriage, and they finally tie the knot.

Parenthood soon follows, as Parthavi becomes pregnant and gives birth to their son, Aditya "Adi" Bhagla. During a prayer ceremony for their new home, Parthavi's brother and his entourage arrive bearing gifts, hinting at a possible reconciliation. However, Madhu remains skeptical and asks Parthavi to stay behind, but she's too caught up in the excitement to heed his warning. She leaves her son in Madhu's care and steps out to purchase some sweets. As she approaches their home, a shocking turn of events unfolds: her brother watches from above as Madhu and Aditya are brutally thrown from the balcony, leaving them to bleed out in a pool of sorrow. Parthavi is consumed by anguish as she witnesses the senseless violence that takes the lives of her beloved husband and child.
