Sahiba Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is an intelligent, shy, and sensitive college student from a Rajput family where tradition pushes for a girl to readily consent to an arranged marriage. Determined not to submit to age-old rules, she fabricates a claim that she is already married to avoid an engagement she doesn’t want. The pretend husband is a dashing army captain, Karan Malhotra Abhishek Bachchan, a man she barely knows who steps into her life after he rescues her from a dangerous group. They meet at a train station, and Sahiba explains that she has witnessed a murder and a killer’s men are pursuing her. Karan, moved by her danger, agrees to escort her home and help her explain things to her family.

Back home, Sahiba’s family mistakes Karan for Sahiba’s husband, which creates a complicated, tense situation that both Karan and Sahiba try to manage but cannot fully resolve. Within the household, Karan slowly earns the affection of Sahiba’s relatives, even as her father, Yogi Grewal Amrish Puri, remains wary and skeptical. The initial charm of Karan’s presence contrasts with Yogi’s stern disapproval, setting up a clash between affection and tradition that drives much of what follows. At the same time, Karan’s own heart begins to bend toward Sahiba, even as he secretly yearns to reconnect with his distant love, Nisha Sonali Bendre, whom he has not seen in a year.

A budding romance develops between Sahiba and Karan, complicated by a rising fear that their fragile pretense could unravel at any moment. A misunderstanding about a pregnancy further entangles their fates, prompting Karan to consider walking away to protect Sahiba from social scandal. Yet Sahiba’s confession of love interrupts his departure, and before long he finds himself pulled deeper into her world. He leaves, however, under the weight of the emergent truth and the strain of the family’s expectations, only to confront the ache of his decision later.

Karan’s return is prompted by a troubling discovery: Nisha has already married and has never felt more than friendship toward him. This revelation makes him realize that his true love has always been Sahiba, not Nisha, and he resolves to return to her. Yet Sahiba’s father and the rest of the family face a new shock when Yogi reveals that Sahiba has been betrothed to another man. The gravity of the situation intensifies when Sahiba learns that the man she is engaged to is connected to a dark act from her college hostel—someone who murdered a girl there. Sahiba explains this to her father, but he does not believe her; the truth is more dangerous because the murderer is the son of a powerful man, Vicky, and the father figure behind it all, Rai Bahadur Tejeshwar Singhal Dalip Tahil.

As the truth unfolds, Singhal’s greed becomes clear: they intend to use Sahiba to lay claim to her father’s wealth and then dispose of her. Karan, who has now reunited with Sahiba through her uncle Raunaq, discovers Vicky’s identity and rushes to intervene as a brutal confrontation erupts in Singhal’s warehouse. Singhal, his son, and their henchmen trap Karan and Yogi indoors and set the place ablaze to ensure the wedding cannot be disrupted. The two men struggle to escape the inferno, fighting for Sahiba’s safety and for the life they’ve come to risk for each other.

Meanwhile, the wedding proceeds, and Sahiba, overwhelmed by stress and fear, swallows poison in a moment of despair. The drama reaches a fever pitch as Karan and Yogi burst in to confront Singhal, Vicky, and their accomplices, overcoming them in a brutal showdown. Sahiba faints, and the couple’s fate hangs in the balance as they rush her to the hospital. Karan refuses to leave Sahiba’s side, confessing his love while she lies unconscious, and the doctors declare her condition stable. In the aftermath, Yogi asserts that Karan and Sahiba are truly meant for each other, a verdict that mirrors the chaotic yet hopeful arc of their journey.

The final scene resolves with a celebratory note, as Sahiba, visibly pregnant, is escorted out of the house for the last time. Karan quiets the room, proclaims with warmth that the baby will be a girl, and lifts Sahiba into his arms, carrying her away toward a future they will build together. Throughout this tale, the threads of love, loyalty, tradition, and danger weave a tapestry that remains faithful to Sahiba’s struggle and the couple’s perseverance, grounding their triumph in shared affection and a resilient bond.
