What crime is Teddy Murretto trying to escape from?

Plot Summary

As con artist Teddy Murretto (played by) fled in a stolen unmarked police car, his luck ran out when it broke down mere miles from a Nevada casino. In the midst of a raucous brawl outside the gaming halls, Murretto cunningly laid low rookie cop Valerie Young, ensuring her arrest would protect him from his relentless pursuers. Meanwhile, hitman Bob Viddick cleverly feigned intoxication and orchestrated a car crash into the abandoned police vehicle, drawing the attention of two state troopers investigating the scene.

As fate would have it, Murretto and Viddick found themselves in separate cells, foiling Viddick’s initial plan to eliminate his target. However, Viddick had secretly planted an incendiary device at the station’s entrance, which ignited during a fire alarm, allowing him to capitalize on the chaos. He brutalized his cellmate, rendering the police sergeant unconscious and stealing his gun. Just as Viddick was poised to take out Murretto, Young intervened, returning him to his cell with a stern warning.

As these two adversaries traded barbs, a third killer, Anthony Lamb, entered the fray - a second hitman hired to eliminate Murretto. Disguised as a balloon delivery man, Lamb methodically dispatched several police officers. Young discovered the carnage and retreated behind bulletproof glass, where she found herself face-to-face with Murretto and Viddick in their holding cells. A hail of bullets ensued, and one of Young’s stray rounds ricocheted, striking her abdomen. As chaos reigned supreme, corrupt officer Huber revealed his duplicity to Young, aligning himself with Lamb as they attempted to breach the walls separating them from Murretto and Viddick.

As the tension mounted, Murretto confided in his cellmates about his dubious dealings with a Nevada casino mob boss. When the state attorney general, William Fenton, refused to cooperate, the mob boss had him brutally killed - but not before recording their conversations. To save his own skin, Murretto agreed to collaborate with the FBI, only to find himself targeted by hired killers dispatched by the very same mob boss he had tried to double-cross.

As Murretto (character) and Viddick, two prisoners with ulterior motives, make their case to Young for the keys to their cells, Murretto’s cunning eventually wins out, much to Viddick’s dismay. With the keys in hand, Murretto is released to exact his revenge on Huber and Lamb, leaving Young’s fellow officers to suffer at their hands. Just as two unsuspecting law enforcement officials fall prey to Lamb’s ruthless tactics, Murretto arrives on the scene, unleashing a torrent of violence upon both men. In the midst of the chaos, Lamb mistakenly takes out Huber while attempting to fend off Murretto’s relentless assault. Meanwhile, Viddick has been secretly freed, and he seizes the opportunity to strike down Lamb with his blade. As Viddick presents Murretto with a chance to avenge his fallen loved ones, the vengeful prisoner instead chooses to take out both Viddick and Lamb, setting the stage for a dramatic explosion of violence.

The air is thick with tension as Murretto prepares to make his escape, but Young, who has been attending to her own gunshot wound, appears on the scene. With a fierce determination burning within her, she threatens to return Murretto to his cell, only to be met with his response: he sets the entire station ablaze, revealing his true nature as a force of chaos and destruction.

As Young engages in an intense firefight with Murretto, it seems as though justice may finally be served. However, just as she is about to deliver the final blow, Detective Deena Schier, another corrupt cop investigating the Fenton case, intervenes, striking Young down. With Viddick emerging from the flames, he dispatches Deena and leads Young to safety outside before making his escape in a stolen police vehicle.

As Young lies wounded but alive on an ambulance gurney, she receives a distressing radio transmission about a stolen police cruiser from the station. Ignoring her paramedics, she hijacks the ambulance and sets off in hot pursuit of Viddick, the two sharing a haunting harmony as they speed towards their next violent confrontation.
